The Matt Anderson Baseball Academy will be hosting a Showcase Evaluation Camp on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at “In the Net” Sports Complex in Palmyra, PA. The morning session will focus on evaluating each player's baseball skills. Position players will run the 60 yard dash, field and throw from their respective position, and hit in the cages. Pitchers will warm-up and throw a bullpen for evaluation. Each player’s evaluation will be done by professional baseball scouts. The morning session will be very similar to a professional baseball tryout camp. The goal is to be able to give each player an honest assessment of his abilities. The afternoon session will include a pitching discussion, hitting evaluation and culminate with a controlled scrimmage. Scouts and college coaches will see players in real game type situations. The Anderson Baseball Pro Showcase is different from the typical showcase because we offer more than running the 60yd dash, fielding 5 groundballs and getting 10 swings. Players are active for most of the day. There is very little “sitting around“.
The staff will include professional baseball scouts and division I college coaches. Pennsylvania Scouting Supervisor for the Major League Scouting Bureau Brad Fidler has committed to be part of the staff along with Tim Adkins professional scout for the Chicago Cubs. Penn State Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Eric Folmer has agreed to join the staff. Matt Andeson - full time professional baseball scout for the Florida Marlins will anchor the staff. This camp is the first of its kind in central Pennsylvania and a great opportunity to learn and be evaluated by an elite staff of professional scouts.
This camp occurs during the NCAA Division I recruiting period and we expect many college coaches to attend. The goal of this camp is three- fold: 1) to give the prospective players the opportunity to learn from professional baseball instructors; 2) to give the prospective player the opportunity to gain an honest evaluation from professional baseball scouts of his abilities and future; 3) to give the prospective player the opportunity to showcase his skills for professional baseball scouts and Division I college coaches.
Please contact Matt Anderson (570) 971-9812 or matt@andersonbaseball.net with any questions. We at the Matt Anderson Baseball Academy are looking forward to a great day of baseball! In the event that player's need to be dismissed early for travel, basketball or other concerns, the staff will make all the needed adjustments to the schedule to insure that each player has a great experience.
Recap Showcase Evaluation Camp - January 29, 2011
75 potential recruits and 20 Coaches and Scouts gathered for the 3rd Annual Matt Anderson baseball Academy Pro Showcase in Muncy PA on Saturday, January 29, 2011. The staff included Penn State Assistant Coaches Eric Folmar and Jason Bell along with Matt Anderson and Brad Fidler. A new member was added to the staff: Tim Adkins of the Chicagoa Cubs. Tim Adkins supervised the pitching aspect of the camp and was abole to evaluation and offer instruction to 33 pitchers from all over the Mid-Atlantic region. Tim brings 13 years of minor league playing experience along with 3 years college coaching at Marshall University.
Austin Davis claimed the MVP honors from the afternoon scrimmage. The scrimmage has become a main stay activity to end the camp that brings together all players and parents in a fun and competitive setting. At the end, almost every camper left feeling satisfied as to the amount of swings, throws, ground balls, instructions, evaluation, etc. This is the main aim of the Matt Anderson Showcase: To spend a day with young players that are striving to get better and play baseball after high school.
2 players that attended the 2011 Showcase were drafted in the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft marking a first for the event. Austin Davis (C/3B) from Central Columbia High School in Bloomsburg, PA was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 48th round and Garret Peterson (RHP) from Dubois High School in Dubois, PA was drafted in the 49th round by the Minnesota Twins. Christian Helsel and Max McDowell (2009, 2010) played in the East Coast Showcase and the Area Code games in the summer of 2011 which are the two premier recuiting/ scouting events for high amateurs in the country.
As always, the Anderson Baseball would like to thank all that particiapted in 2011 and look forward to next year at a new facility in Palmyra, PA. It was a great day of Baseball!

Recap Showcase Evaluation Camp --- January 18, 2010
93 players and 20 coaches and scouts got together for the 2nd annual Matt Anderson Baseball Academy Winter Showcase camp at the Generations Sports Dome in Muncy, PA. Constant activity was the norm for all players attending the camp. The day culminated with and indoor scrimmage with 2010 MVP honors going to Jesse Revenis from Delran, NJ. The impressive senior outfielder showed well in the morning skills evaluation and then swung the bat well in the scrimmage.
A new session was introduced to the campers that included an informational session concerning pursuing a college or pro baseball career. The scouts and coaches on hand spoke to the players along with Wally Lubanski who uniquely has had 3 sons go onto play college and professional baseball. The session intent was to offer some guidance in how the recruiting process works and what can a player do to succeed at getting to the school of his dreams.
The constant pace of the camp is really the camp's greatest characteristics. With the large usable space of the generation sports dome, campers go from station to station working their way through the tpro style try out camp in the morning, rest for a lunch session, and then re-group for hitting evaluation and a scrimmage.
The large heated indoor space really makes the day enjoyable and different than most winter showcase experiences. We look forward to what 2011 has to bring.

Eighty prospects attended the 1st ever Showcase/Evaluation Camp at the Generation Sports Dome in Muncy, PA. It was a great day of baseball that started with talented evaluation, included some instruction and tips on the recruiting process and culminated with a scrimmage in which Bo Slemons of Hubbard, OH was deemed the MVP due to his impressive at bats.
Twenty-two college coaches and/or professional scouts attended the event gathering information on a number of future players. The ability to watch a variety of activities was cited as a great quality of the showcase. A scout could sit behind the mound recording radar gun readings while peeking at player's swings and watching infield all at the same time. A tough assignment but one that maximizes a coach/scouts time.
Many attending players expressed a great joy at the end of the day. Most felt that they got their money's worth as they we kept in constant motion. Time just sitting around and watching others is kept to a minimum at the Anderson Baseball Academy Showcase. Players move from evaluation, to the cages, to lunch, back to the cages, to infield, and then to the scrimmage game. At the end of the showcase, most were tired.
The Showcase strives to be different and offer players more than 5 ground balls, a 60 yard dash, and 15 swings. The unbelievably huge facility allows players to get a lot of swings, warm up properly and play a simulation game. Playing in January in PA is definitely a bonus that most did not expect.
All in all, it was a great start to what we at the Anderson Baseball Academy hope will become a standard on the recruiting trail in the future.
